This is Teri Hunt with my pictures of our new kitty SAF helped save right before Halloween, SHADOW. He was only about 6-8 weeks per the vet, Dr. Long. He only weighed a little about 1.8 lbs so it was hard to tell if he was older but just so small because he was starving.
We got Shadow when a neighbor, knowing I have and love cats, knocked on my door to see if I lost a kitty. He took me to his house where he had a little black kitty, who was sick with oozing eyes, skinny, with worms, and a sore on the side of his face. My neighbor was going to take him to the pound, and I just knew they would put this little baby to sleep if I didn't do something. So, with my boyfriend's permission, and the joy of my children, I brought this mangy little black kitty home. I did what I could do for him by giving him a bath and feeding him proper food, but I could tell with his eyes and the worms he was going to need a vet. My son, Tyler ( in photos), is disabled with a heart condition called Aortic Valve Insuficciency and has already had one open heart surgery. My husband and I are going through a divorce, and I live on my son's SSI income, me and my three children. So, I did not have the money to take this baby in. I called the vet and they gave me the number of an Animal Aid Society who takes sick or hurt animals in, assumes the burden of paying for their vet bills, and finds them good homes.. But with Shadow's condition it was obvious he had upper respiratory infection. I was told they would just put him to sleep because it was very contagious to other cats, and they didn't want it to spread. I couldn't let that happen, so they gave me The Shakespeare Animal Fund's number. I called. You graciously agreed to help me with $50.00 of the bill at the vet.
I took Shadow in, and got him wormed, medicated, and his first set of shots. Shadow must have lost his mommy or was abandoned because all he had in his tummy was grass. The vet said he was eating grass to live and that is probably how he got the worms. The infection in his eyes has cleared and he is so beautiful now. We decided he was so sweet we couldn't part with him.
We decided to name him Shadow because, well, he is solid black.. NO WHITE, and in the beginning he followed us everywhere we went, like our own little 'shadow'. He sleeps curled up around my neck or my feet. He has turned into a beautiful kitten who plays with the other kitten member of our family.
THANK YOU SAF FOR THE HELP...we couldn't have done it without you.
My name is Teri (or Teresa) and the kids in the picture our my son Tyler, and my daughter Ashley...my oldest daughter Kassie was not home to be in the pictures.
Take care....Teri Hunt
