A rose by any other name

SAF name-spike

By Jennifer Webb, Founder, Shakespeare Animal Fund

What’s in a name? The other day I ran into someone walking two dogs, Catfish and Scout. And I know someone else who has a dog and cat, Meggie and Kietzke. One owner was a man, the other was a woman. Now can you guess which animals belonged to which person? Of course, the man owned Catfish and Scout, and the woman Meggie and Kietzke. This is not to say a man can’t own a dog or cat with a frou-frou name, or that a woman can’t own pets with macho names, but it’s interesting how much of the time names seem to correlate with gender.

Do we create extensions of ourselves through our pets’ names?

Simple Monthly Donations

We can easily pay $5 for a fancy cup of coffee these days. If you would consider giving only $5 a month (the price of that cup of coffee) over the course of a year it would get one wounded or suffering animal to the vet. That’s spectacular, for only $5 monthly. Sign up for regular donations using the form below
