Intelligence Unleashed

By Jennifer Webb, Founder, Shakespeare Animal Fund

We all think our pets are smart, maybe the smartest dog or the cleverest cat in the universe, which is also why we carry photos of our pets on our smart phones and laptops, brag about their cute tricks and how they allow us to actually share the bed with them.

You might find it interesting that according to canine expert Stanley Coren, who is also a professor emeritus at the University of British Columbia and author of several books on dogs, the average dog can learn 165 words (similar to a two-year-old child) including signals and gestures, and the really smart breeds (border collies, poodles and German shepherds) can learn 250 words.

We can easily pay $5 for a fancy cup of coffee these days. And if you would consider giving only $5 a month (the price of that cup of coffee) over the course of a year it would get one wounded or suffering animal to the vet. That’s spectacular, for only $5 monthly. Sign up for regular donations using the form below
